UNION CALLS STRIKE
(From First Page) I
we will have a complete crew when
we open May 15."
Hingston said the company and the
union have worked in harmony the
past three years a.nd that he had
agreed to recognize a committee of
employees as a collective bargaining
agency on questions affecting wages
and working conditions.
This year such an agreement was
discussed but up to the time the
strike was called none had been sign-
ed.
No Pickets
No picket line will be placed
around any of the Klickitat Pine
Box company property unless an at-
tempt to operate is made, Weiss said.
Strike headquarters have been set
up by the union in the Abeling Build-

"Union headquarters are open to
the public at all times," Weiss said.

LI MASS OF-RO0
I REMOVED FROM
CITY PIPE LINE
At least one of the reasons
why some Goldendale water us-
ers were not receiving sufficient
pressure was uncovered a week
ago when Jim Brazelton, water
superintendent removed a mass
of roots froln the King street
line.
The roots had grown into a
mass more than 16 inches long
and nearly eight inches in dia-
meter and had virtually ob-
structed the eight inch main in
which they were lodged.
According to Brazelton the
roots, which came from a grease
wood bush, entered the pipe
through a joint connection. The
roots were on display in The
Sentinel office window last week.

general public."
The Olympia headquarters of the
district council of International
Woodworkers of America with which
the Goldendale local is affiliated was
notified of the decision to strike fol-
lowing the vote Monday night, Weiss
said. This notification was the first
word the district headquarters bad
concerning the strike, he declared.
