OBITUARIES
Lau A ns
I~urie AtkJns, 36, of Golden-
dale, died Oct. 28, 2004, in Gold-
endale.
She was born July 24, 1968 in
Barstow, Calif. Atkins attended
schools there and moved with
her family to Roosevelt in 1983.
She and Bruce Atkins were
married on Nov. 11, 1988 in
Goldendale.
Alkins worked at Mr. Adams
Care Center and at Klickitat Val-
ley Hospital until 2o02 when ill
health forced her retirement.
She enjoyed being a home-
maker and home decorating.
Survivors indude her husband
Bruce; two sons, Michael J. and
Cory T. Atkins, all of Goldendale;
her father, Felino Sanchez, also
of Goldendale, and two sisters,
Sandy Thompson of Wenatchee
and Corinna Sanchez of Gre-
sham; a favorite aunt Della Tuck-
er of California, several nieces,
nephews, atmts, uncles and many
friends.
Memorial services were held
Nov 1 at the Grace Brethren
Church with Pastor Greg How-
ell officiating. Erdman Funeral
Home and Cremation Service
has care of arrangements.
Walter !-. Sexton
Walter F. Sexton Sr., 76 of
Goldendale, died Oct. 31, 2004 in
Goldendale.
He was born on Nov. 12,1927
in Gillett, Wis., to Earl and
Amanda Sexton.
He attended school in Wis-
consin and was married to Mil-
dred Koch on July 26, 1952 in
Laona, Wis. Sexton worked at a
lumber mill in Wisconsin prior to
the family mining to Goldendale
in 1955.
Sexton worked as a track tech-
nician for the railroad until his
retirement.
He enjoyed tinkering with cars
and was a hobby farmer.
Two brothers and three sis-
ters preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife Mil-
dred of Goldendale; two daugh-
ters, Peggy Sexton McMillian of
Goldendale, and Cheryl Sexton
White, of Bingen; two sons, Wal-
ter Jr. of Lyle and William of
Goldendale; eight grandcldldren
and six great-grandchildren.
Private family services will be
held.
Erdman Funeral Home and
Cremation Service has care of
arrangements.
Donald L. Dean
Donald L. Dean, 73, died Oct.
22, 20¢)4, at a nursing home in
The Dalles.
He was born April 29, 1931 in
Add, the youngest of eight chil-
dren, to Jetty and S. Leon Dean.
Dean was a 1949 graduate of
The Dalles High School. He mar-
ried Delores M. Baldwin in 1951,
and worked for The Dalles Irri-
gation District for 35 years, retir-
ing as operations manager.
Dean was an avid hunting and
fishing enthusiast.
Survivors include his wife,
Delores, of The Dalles; two
daughters, Donna Lee Ham-
mond, of Warrenton, and Carol
Ann Guthrie, of Sacramento,
Calif.; a granddaughter, Clara
Marie Hammond; a grandson,
Christopher Dean Guthrie and
sisters, Bernice Johnson, of Jack-
son, Calif., and Beth) Meister, of
Coos Bay, Ore.
A private family service will be
observed. Memorials may be
made to the Mid Columbia
Senior Center, zam W. 9th St.,
The Dalles, OR 97058.

Inside the Carnage House, Dick Wheelhouse explains early farming in Klickitat County dur-
ing the annual meeting of the Klickitat County Historical Society held Saturday, Oct. 23. The
program included an introduction to the machinery (for the non-farmers), and an effort to
explain how each piece figured into the raising of crops in Klickitat County. Wheelhouse and
his wife, Beverly, have written a book called, "They Worked Hard." It is available for pur-
chase at the Presby Museum.
Annual turkey dinner set for Sunday, Nov. 7
The Order of Eastern Star,
Evergreen Chapter No. 1 will
serve up their traditional turkey
dinner on Sunday, Nov. 7 from
noon to 3 p.m.
According to tradition, the
meal is always served on the first
Sunday of November. The Chap-
ter has held this annual event for
more than 50 years.
Originally, the focx] was cooked
in the homes of Chapter mem-
bers and then transported to the
Masonic Hall. The potatoes were
cooked and mashed at the old
Hall Hotel.
