Four award-winning area quil-
ters will have their works on
exhibit in the White Salmon Val-
ley Community Library's
Sprint/Baker Gallery through the
month of December. All the
pieces in the show are colorful,
modern, scrap-quilts from small
wall hangings to king-size spreads
that are functional, user-friendly
and washable. One unique fea-
ture of this show is that all pieces
are for sale.
Quilters include sisters Patty
Schmid Gray and Suann Sehmid
Orr, fifth-generation quilters from
Trout Lake. Gray and Orr work
together on the larger, more chal-
lenging pieces and create small-
er quilts individually.
Long-time quilter, Donn
Williams, of The Dalles, is an
international quilter, who has cre-
ated over 15o special commission
quilts for clients from around the
world. Williams' specialty is the
Longarm Machine Quilting.
Williams was raised in a "sewing
home", and took up quilting as a
young girl under the tutelage of
her grandmother.
Marilyn E. Vosika, of Snowden,
has been sewing since she started
4-H at the age of nine. Although
she considers herself to be a
novice, she has been quilting for
lo years and says that qttilting has
become an "addiction" to the
beauty and design of the fabrics.
Among her numerous awards are
Top Machine Quilted Quilt Award
at the 2004 Klickitat County Fair,
and the Homemaker of the Year
Award at the 2002 Klickitat Coun-
ty Fair.
All four quilters are ~ven-
dors at the Trout Lake Saturday
Market from July throt~gh Labor
Day. For more information about
the quilt show, contact Patty Gray
(5o9) 493-8959.
